Visitor's Tax in Marktoberdorf
Marktoberdorf is not only the economic engine of the district, a city of art and culture, a culinary gem in the Allgäu, and a hub for major events, but also a state-recognized resort town.
To ensure we can offer our guests excellent service and a memorable stay, the City of Marktoberdorf collects a visitor’s tax. This fee helps us maintain our biking and hiking trails, steadily expand our offerings, and continuously invest in additional services.

The town of Marktoberdorf is a partner of allgäumobil in the castle park. Thanks to revenue from the visitor’s tax, our guests can use their Marktoberdorf guest card to explore the entire Ostallgäu region, the Pfaffenwinkel, Oberammergau, and all the way to Garmisch by bus and train at no cost.
Indoor and Outdoor Swimming Pools
The indoor and outdoor pool in Marktoberdorf offers sports, fun, and relaxation for young and old alike. Experience endless swimming fun with the whole family at family-friendly prices.
Whether indoors, with a 25-meter pool and a children’s pool, or in the heated outdoor pool with relaxing massage jets and a hot tub—there’s definitely something for everyone, young and old. During a visit to the wellness area with its various saunas, you can relax and unwind. The bistro offers a tempting menu of food and drinks to satisfy your appetite.

Hiking in Summer and Winter
Marktoberdorf is centrally located within the hiking area of the castle
park. The town serves as a stopover, starting point, and destination on many regional and national hiking trails. To explore the surrounding area in both summer and winter and experience nature, guests with a guest card can borrow the appropriate equipment—such as our hiking poles, Nordic walking poles, or treaded snowshoes—free of charge once per stay at the tourist office. If you’d prefer to explore the area accompanied by a local hiking guide, please contact us.

Alpaka Wanderung
The “Petrich's Alpakas” farm is the perfect place for anyone who wants to explore the Allgäu countryside in the company of these unique companions. They offer alpaca hikes where participants can experience the animals up close.
Guided alpaca hikes with up to 1–6 alpacas; tours lasting 1–1.5 hours and 2–2.5 hours.
Group rate: 1–6 alpacas – 1 hour: €55
For every additional half hour, you’ll receive a €5 discount, so you’ll pay only €15 instead of €20

Visitor's Tax
The visitor’s tax will be levied starting January 1, 2022.
The tax amounts to €1.20 per day of stay, including VAT, for persons 16 years of age or older.
The following are exempt from the visitor’s tax:
Persons staying in the municipality solely to visit family members.
Persons staying in the municipal area exclusively to carry out their professional activities, and
persons staying in the municipal area exclusively for educational purposes, in particular guests of the Bavarian Music Academy and state institutions (e.g., boarding schools).
Pilgrims traveling along the Way of St. James.
A companion for persons with a severe disability card bearing the designations B or H.
To be exempt from the tourist tax, you must submit the appropriate documentation to the City of Marktoberdorf.
